WHEN, WHY?
This guide first came on-line September
6, 1996. The editors of Ocean News & Technology
Magazine wanted to publish a Product and Service Buyer's
Guide and Directory for the Ocean Industry. Three options
were considered. Publishing a yearly booklet, putting
the database on CD-ROM, or making the database available
on the Internet. The printed booklet and CD-ROM had
two disadvantages of being costly and dated.
HOW CAN I TELL IF MY COMPANY
IS IN THE DATABASE?
Just go to the INDEX
of FIRMS section and you can look up companies alphabetically.
HOW CAN MY
COMPANY GET LISTED IN YOUR DATABASE?
To get your company listed, please
fill out the ON-LINE FORM, or
mail the information to us. Listings are free, unless
you choose any options to make your listing STAND out
from the rest.
THERE
IS A MISTAKE IN MY LISTING.
As with any large database, there are
going to be mistakes. However, with your help, we can
keep those errors to a minimum. Please fill out our ON-LINE
FORM and select the UPDATE / ENHANCE BUTTON. Be sure
to fill out your COMPANY NAME and the sections that need
correcting. Then, let us know what corrections you've
made in the comments box.
OR, you can simply e-mail us at webmaster@ocean-news.com.
HOW CAN I
FIND OUT ALL OF THE CATEGORIES THAT MY COMPANY IS LISTED
UNDER?
At this time, there is no way to search
for all the categories that a particular company is
listed under. However, if you CONTACT
us and specifically ask for this information, we will
send it on your company only.
WHY DON'T
YOU HAVE A KEYWORD SEARCH ENGINE?
This is a possibility in the future.
However, at this time, a keyword search engine is not
required, and would not be very effective in our type
of database. Keyword search engines are typically slow,
and the current method of searching yeilds faster results.
